The 12th House Season Experience
As I sip my coffee this morning and sit down to write, I feel a familiar urge rise within me - the desire to scatter my thoughts across the page. To empty my mind of the flood of insights and energetic downloads that greet me each morning. It would be easy to let it all spill out at once.
But instead, I pause.
I soften my breath.
I reflect.
I allow my fingers to move only when something is ready to pass through me — not forced, not rushed, but released.
That, in essence, is the phase of life I am in right now. I am in my 12th house season.
A Descent Into the Soul
As an Aquarius rising, when the Sun travels through Capricorn, I am drawn inward away from the noise of the external world and into the quiet, tidal waters of my inner life. This is the sea of the soul. A place where structure dissolves, timelines blur, and the psyche asks for rest rather than answers.
In astrology, the 12th house is ruled by Neptune, the planet of dreams, intuition, mysticism, and transcendence. It is the space of soul memory, the liminal realm where ego loosens its grip and spirit gently takes the lead.
And my soul, if you know me, is a sea seeker.
I feel called to dive beneath the surface of my life and swim in the vastness of her wisdom. To let the waters wash over the year that has passed — the grief, the lessons, the fatigue, the beauty — and allow what no longer belongs to me to dissolve. This season is not about striving forward. It’s about floating. Resting. Trusting that the tides know where they’re carrying me.
“She loves the ocean. She loves its vastness — it reminds her that there are things in life that are bigger than herself, that are bigger than her worries. She loves the changing of tides and how beauty can be discovered in both the highs and the lows. She loves how her feet sink in the sand, centering her and keeping her grounded. She loves the warmth of the sun and how it sets over the sea — affirming that sometimes endings are necessary and goodbyes can be quite beautiful. Take her to the ocean where the waves kiss the shoreline and the breeze hits her skin. Where true beauty isn't just found on the surface, but in the depths of the sea. She is a sea seeker — uncovering treasures along the shore and within her soul. She has salt in her tears and sunshine in her heart. She is the ocean and life is her treasure.”
This passage came with a necklace my mom gifted me for Christmas from Bryan Anthonys. I’m wearing it as I write this as a talisman reminding me that this season of surrender is not weakness, but wisdom.
The 12th House in Astrology
In astrology, the 12th house is the void before the beginning. It is the final chapter before the new cycle begins — the place where the soul reviews, releases, and prepares to emerge renewed.
It is where personal history meets collective memory. Where karma surfaces not to punish, but to be understood and integrated. It is the house of endings, but also of spiritual rebirth.
My mentor, Steven Forrest, describes the 12th house this way:
“This house refers to the subconscious, the hidden self that exists apart from your physical everyday reality. This includes the unconscious mind, subconscious memory, subconscious habit patterns from the past, mental illness, karmic debts, self-deception, escapism, spiritual realization, limitations, frustration, and ultimately ego death. The 12th house also refers to the collective unconscious of all humanity.
Mastering the 12th house: self-transcendence; freedom from worry about the ups and downs of life. Spiritual and psychic experiences; meditation. A sense of the presence of God/Spirit or higher levels of consciousness.”
To experience the 12th house consciously is to step beyond the constructs of the human experience and into the language of the soul. This is the realm of intuition, compassion, creativity, and deep empathy — parts of us that require quiet, space, and permission to simply be.

Who Feels This Most — And When
For those with natal placements in the 12th house — especially the Sun or Moon — this inward orientation isn’t optional. It’s a lifelong rhythm. These souls need regular retreat, solitude, and spiritual replenishment to remain healthy and whole.
For the rest of us, the 12th house comes alive one month each year, when the Sun transits the sign before your Rising sign.
Here’s how to find yours:
Identify your Rising sign
Look to the sign immediately before it
Note when that sign’s season occurs — that is your personal 12th house season
For example: Taurus Rising your 12th house season is Aries season (March 21 – April 19)
This is your annual invitation to slow down, go inward, and consciously close the year of your soul before your personal new year begins.
Why This Season Matters So Much
Anyone who has worked with me in a year-ahead reading knows how strongly I emphasize planning for this time. The 12th house season is a potent portal. When honored intentionally, it clears emotional residue, restores spiritual connection, and prepares you to step into your 1st house season with clarity, vitality, and purpose.
When ignored, it often shows up as burnout, confusion, emotional overwhelm, or the feeling of being “off” without knowing why.
This is not a season to override. It is a season to listen.
Things to Do During Your 12th House Season
Rest more than usual. This is not a grind-it-out season. Prioritize sleep, naps, quiet mornings, and slower evenings.
Journal and reflect. Notice patterns closing out. What beliefs, habits, or identities are dissolving?
Practice solitude with intention. Alone time isn’t loneliness right now — it’s medicine.
Strengthen spiritual hygiene. Meditate, cleanse your energy, ground, and protect your boundaries.
Listen to dreams and intuition. Your subconscious is louder than logic during this phase.
Complete loose ends. Finish, forgive, release, archive, close chapters.
Create behind the scenes. Vision, plan, and sketch — without forcing public outcomes.
Allow grief and tenderness. Old emotions may surface not to trap you, but to be freed.
Things NOT to Do During Your 12th House Season
Force clarity or certainty. This is a liminal space meant to be felt, not solved.
Overcommit socially. Too much stimulation drains you faster now.
Push major launches or bold visibility. Plant seeds quietly instead.
Ignore your body’s signals. Fatigue, sensitivity, or moodiness are messages, not flaws.
Spiral into self-criticism. The ego is dissolving; compassion is required.
Numb out completely. Escapism delays the healing this season offers.
A Final Reflection
Your 12th house season isn’t about fixing yourself.
It’s about unbecoming what you’re no longer meant to carry.
This is the final exhale before your personal new year begins.
Honor the pause.
Trust the unraveling.
Something truer is forming beneath the surface — and when you rise again, you will do so lighter, clearer, and more aligned with who you are becoming.
